Code of Conduct

Responsible for ourselves and others

/
Code of Conduct

Challenges always drive us to peak performance.

Our offer

Our existing philosophy forms the basis and introduction to our Code of Conduct.

We, the Gebrüder Wanner GmbH, have been a family business since 1872 and are one of the few rope manufacturers in Germany. Our company has been characterised by family values, goals and intentions for generations. People and their safety are our priority.

Not only our numerous products guarantee this safety and responsibility, but also the way we do business. Employees are valued as an essential part of our company and customers and suppliers are won over as trusted partners.

Mutual respect, honesty and transparency play a key role here. Our employees can utilise their creativity and personality in a variety of ways thanks to their personal responsibility and freedom to make decisions. This enables us to constantly realise new ideas and solutions and to develop the highest quality.

This way of working, the variety of products, the wide-ranging expertise and the constant commitment to the company have enabled us to write success stories for years.

Supply chain law

“The Supply Chain Act came into force on January 1, 2023. The law regulates corporate responsibility for compliance with human rights in global supply chains. This includes, for example, protection against child labor, the right to fair wages and environmental protection.
This benefits people in the supply chains, companies and also consumers.*

This law initially applies to companies with more than 3,000 employees and from 2024 also to companies with more than 1,000 employees in Germany. As Gebrüder Wanner GmbH, we are therefore not affected by the Supply Chain Act, but we are committed to complying with ethical business behaviour, which is explained in more detail in the following points.

* Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs

Quality policy of the Gebrüder Wanner GmbH

‘We at Gebrüder Wanner GmbH utilise the experience of our more than 150 years of tradition to ensure that our products meet the latest quality and safety criteria for our customers.
Our core competences are divided into the areas of customisation, construction, production and services in the field of rope and lifting technology.’

In order to realise our mission sustainably, we have implemented a quality management system in accordance with the international standard DIN EN ISO 9001, which is subject to continuous improvement. As emphasised in our mission statement, the safety of the people who work with our products is our top priority.

Our focus is on customer orientation, the aim of which is to be recognized as a fair, beneficial partner. To this end, we offer a very high level of vertical integration with our industry-specific, up-to-date expertise, which includes innovative and creative ideas, in order to be able to implement these requirements. We strive for unique selling points in our industry, which we support with competitive prices, reasonable delivery times and a transparent, reliable contact for long-term customer loyalty.

Our principles of behaviour

As a family business, we maintain long-term, trusting, honest and close relationships with our business partners, which are characterised by mutual trust and fairness. Furthermore, we do not bribe and do not accept bribes. We avoid putting ourselves and our partners (and their employees) in compromising situations.

The concept of the honourable merchant, who not only complies with legal requirements but also pursues morally and ethically responsible business practices, serves as a model.
The concept of the ‘honourable merchant’ is closely linked to German economic history and dates back to the time of the Hanseatic League in the Middle Ages. At that time, it was customary for merchants to assume a special responsibility in their business relationships and to orientate themselves towards high moral standards. They acted not only in their own interests, but also in the interests of their customers, business partners and society as a whole.

Through their activities, they contributed to strengthening the reputation of the merchant community and were seen as role models for other entrepreneurs.
In terms of the sustainability triangle, it is therefore not only economic sustainability that must be strived for, but social and ecological aspects must also be taken into account. Violations of these principles, either directly or indirectly, can have consequences for Gebrüder Wanner GmbH (hereinafter referred to as Gebrüder Wanner) (reputational damage, legal consequences, loss of deliveries).

The Code of Conduct does not replace existing or future guidelines and/or processes. The individual companies are free to issue stricter or more detailed regulations locally.

Our understanding of sustainability

Carl von Carlowitz was a German forestry official and scientist who lived in the 18th century. He coined the term sustainability by using it in his writings on sustainable forest management. For him, sustainability meant that the management of forest areas should be organised in such a way that they can be used in the long term without depleting natural resources.

For Carlowitz, this meant that only as many trees should be felled as can grow back. He emphasised that not only the benefits of the forest for people had to be taken into account, but also the needs of other creatures that live in the forest. Through this sustainable management, the function of the forest as a habitat, climate protection and raw material supplier should be maintained. Carlowitz’s concept of sustainability was primarily relevant to forestry in his time, but was later transferred to other areas such as agriculture, fishing and industry.

Sustainability means meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Today, the term sustainability is often used in connection with environmental, social and economic aspects and describes a way of life and an economy that is geared towards long-term environmental, social and economic stability and justice.

Environmental protection is an important aspect of sustainability. We must be aware that our actions have an impact on the environment and that we only have limited resources at our disposal. It is therefore necessary to develop and utilise resource-saving and environmentally friendly technologies in order to reduce the environmental impact and ensure a sustainable future.

Another important aspect of sustainability is social justice. A sustainable society is characterised by the fact that it offers equal opportunities and possibilities to all people and does not exclude or disadvantage anyone. This also means that the needs of minorities and disadvantaged groups must be taken into account.

Finally, economic sustainability also plays an important role. Sustainable business practices not only take into account short-term profits, but also long-term effects on the environment and society. Companies and organisations should therefore be guided by ecological and social standards and strive for long-term economic stability.
